Publicity Officer for 1st Braidwood Scouts, Chris Campbell, said Joeys was open to girls and boys aged five to eight and is the first section of Scouts, focusing on fun and friendship.
“Joeys is a gentle introduction to the world of challenges and adventures in Scouting. A Joey can join at any time after their 5th birthday provided they are attending school full time. In Joeys, young people learn about socialising, basic bushcraft, reacting to emergencies, taking responsibility and participating in basic adventure-based activities,” said Mrs Campbell.
The 1st Braidwood Scouts Group Support Committee has announced that from Term 1, Leaders with children in the Group will receive fee discounts in appreciation of the hard work and time that volunteer Leaders put into supporting local youth. Anyone interested in volunteering is urged to contact the Leader-In-Charge, Mal Campbell.
Over the school holidays, two Scouts, Hannah and Jacob, attended the Australian Jamboree in South Australia, while another exciting adventure awaits three of Braidwood’s Venturer Scouts in 2019: Hamish, Charlie and Tess will be joining approximately 50,000 other youth members at World Jamboree, to be held in the US in July.
Mrs Campbell said that this year will also see the Scout Group out and about in the community, helping out at events such as the Braidwood Show, the Rodeo and collecting and recycling empty cans and bottles at various events.
Scouts meet on Thursdays during school terms throughout the year:
- Joeys (ages 5-8) 5-6pm
- Cubs (8-11) 6.15-7.45pm
- Scouts (11-14) 6-8pm
- Venturers (15-17) 6-8pm
Scouts NSW is an approved provider of the Active Kids Rebate, a NSW Government program to help families meet the cost of enabling their children to participate in sport, fitness and recreation activities.
Parents and carers of school-aged children can receive a $100 voucher towards annual membership fees. Every child (aged 4 and a half to 18 years) enrolled in school from K to 12 is eligible, including those who are home-schooled or enrolled in secondary school education at TAFE NSW.
