Douglas Derick Eustace, 44, met Mary Freeman while on holiday and proposed to her within weeks, so he could return from India to live in Australia.
Less than four months after their wedding, Eustace stabbed Ms Freeman 12 times at their Hallam home just after midnight on January 27, 2017.
The attack came after Australia Day drinks with friends, during which the couple had started to argue.
Ms Freeman cowered and made a vain attempt to cover herself during the attack.
During Tuesday's sentencing, Victorian Supreme Court Justice Lesley Taylor described the murder as "brutal and utterly ruthless".
"You killed her in a frenzied knife attack in the bedroom of your shared home," she said.
She said even after friends restrained Eustace, he broke free and rushed back to the bedroom, stabbing his wife another two times after saying: "Let me go, I want to kill this bitch".
Eustace was jailed for 25 years, with a minimum 20 years.
He has already served 423 days in pre-sentence detention.
