Queanbeyan Palerang Council's concept plans for the beautification of Braidwood's CBD include a new barbecue and shelter to replace the existing but dilapidated area in Ryrie Park.
An idea was presented to QPRC for a barbecue shelter designed to be in keeping with the heritage architecture of the region.
The plans were developed by local architect Roger James, after a series of consultations and conversations with John Stahel and Braidwood residents.
The design received unanimous support at a meeting of the Braidwood Community Association and the council.
QPRC agreed to support the local design built by local people.
The idea behind the new structure was to have reference, but not imitate, the existing Rotunda in Ryrie Park.
The current proposal is shown in the drawings and consists of two new gas barbecues, one being accessible for handicapped, plus seating with tables at each end.
The new area will all be under cover and protected from the weather.
An information board detailing some aspects of Braidwood's history relevant to the park has also been proposed as part of the shelter.
