The department of foreign affairs and trade has released the numbers on how many people applied for passports around Australia in 2018.

Residents from the Braidwood postcode issued 236 applications last year. 

The Bungendore area issued 592 and Queanbeyan 3600. 

On average 8323 Australians applied for a passport each business day.

This equates to a passport being issued every three seconds.

 2,091,801 passports were issued in total which is 38 per cent more than 10 years ago.

14,438,972 Australians had a passport which amounts to 57 per cent of the population.

The top country for lost and stolen passports was Australia.

41,448 Australian passports were reported lost or stolen last year.
