The afternoon also doubled up as Sponsors Day where the Redbacks players, management and support team got the opportunity to thank the fantastic local Braidwood businesses that play an important role in keeping the Redbacks on the field week in week out.
On a beautiful Saturday afternoon at the Rec Ground the sponsors were treated to food platters prepared by the Albion Café and some cools drinks to set the mood for a great afternoon of rugby.
They were not disappointed. The Redbacks went down to the Tigers 40-19 but showed a fighting spirit that has become a trademark of the Redbacks squad in 2019.
Braidwood opened the scoring on the 14 minute mark with a strong individual try to outside centre Riley Turner which was converted by Ben Howard.
The game was evenly balanced for the next 10 minutes which then saw Taralga, as they have done so often this season slowly start to take control at the breakdown.
Even though Braidwood defended strongly Taralga were able to cross over for three tries going into half time with a 21-7 lead.
The second half was a much more even affair with the Redbacks settling into some structured attacking football, and while Taralga crossed for the first second half try, the Redbacks soon responded on the back of some strong forward work which took the score to 28-14 and gave the Redbacks a glimmer of hope in front of a large home crowd.
While the Redbacks had most of the possession in the second half, Taralga again showed why the are the best side in the competition and crossed for two more tries.
However the crowd were treated to a strong final ten minutes from the Redbacks and were rewarded with a 77th minute try to second rower Angus Sherriff.
The conversion was unsuccessful leaving a final score of 40-19 to the Tigers.
Three points went to Harry Shoemark, two points Tim Moffitt and one point to Clay Williams. Players' Player went to Tim Moffitt.
The Redbacks would like to thank major sponsor the Braidwood Servicemens club who provide a great evening of live music to entertain players and sponsors.
Next weekend, the Redbacks have a bye, and then they embark on three away games to Broulee, Yass and Crookwell.
The Redbacks return home on 6 July against Jindabyne which will also double as Ladies Day. All ladies in Braidwood are invited down to the Rec Ground for some great food, great rugby and a glass of champagne or two sponsored by the Royal Mail Hotel.
