Seven students, six from the high school and one from the primary, travelled to Nowra to compete last Friday.
Lexi Dixon, Alex and Connor McKimme, Regan and Isabella Hindmarsh, Mahlee Spencer-Long, and Johanna Blinco all performed well for the school. BCS swimming coach and Johanna's mother, Sharon, said was impressed with the students' effort on a "tough course."
"They all ran really well," she said. "It's a pretty tough course, pretty hilly."
The effort was particularly impressive, Blinco said, because most of the students had little preparation in the lead-up with the exception of some inter-sport training.
"Considering the kids don't train for it, I think they did really well," she said.
"I also run the swimming squad, and that made a huge difference in the last year. I think the swimming squad helped and we're looking at, when I start the swimming, doing some running training as well."
Out of the seven who competed, Isabella was the standout and finished in 16th place in her division.
Blinco noted that she believes it to be "the biggest group we've had" at cross country regionals, and that all of the kids were excited to take part.
"I know Isabella wanted to reach top 20 and she did, so she reached her goals. The other kids were just happy running."
Along with swimming, Blinco believes that a recent fitness kick from the council has also helped the kids improve their athletic prowess.
"They're doing the zero to 100 at the school as well, we've had a couple of kids take up that free training at the school as well," Blinco said.
"They have quite a few kids coming in at 7.30 on Wednesday morning."
Initiatives such as these, Blinco believes, will work wonders to help the talented students maximise their sporting potential.
"Obviously it's up to the kids, but we've got some very competitive and kids who love sport here, so the ones who grab it will make improvements," she said.
