Old Cooma Road officially opened: The duplication of Old Cooma Road between Edwin Land Parkway and Googong Road was officially opened with the Member for Monaro, John Barilaro last Friday. There is some final landscaping, sign installation and some minor rectification in some sections of the road before the job will be complete. This project was funded by the NSW Government under the Monaro Palerang Roads Package. About 4.5km of road now has two lanes in each direction, as well as provision for cyclists and a 2.5 metre off-road shared path. The upgrade improves connection and safety for Googong, Burra and surrounding communities.

Bungendore playground working group: We are seeking around six to eight Bungendore community representatives to work with Council staff on an informal Bungendore playground working group. The group would help determine needs and aspirations, seek funding and help in the planning for a new Bungendore playground. In 2019, Council worked successfully with a committed group in the Braidwood community to design, seek funding and bring to fruition the brilliant new playground at Ryrie Park. Expressions of interest can be emailed to council@qprc.nsw.gov.au before June 30, 2020.
Support for local roads: The Australian Government has allocated $1,527,709 to QPRC under the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program. The LRCI provides funding to local councils to support jobs and help local economies bounce back from the COVID-19 pandemic. We have put together a works program to seal sections of Butmaroo Road and Majara Street in Bungendore, seal 600m of Williamsdale Road in the Queanbeyan/Burra area, extend the Queanbeyan River Path from Dane Street towards Barracks Flat, extend the stormwater pipe at the Braidwood Recreation Ground to enable a future skate park and additional funding to complete the Lascelles Street upgrade in Braidwood. The works program will be submitted to the Australian Government, with funding to become available from July 1, 2020.
Election signage: With 14 candidates contesting the July 4 by-election, Council expects a significant amount of electoral signage. Council staff will confiscate and destroy electoral signage placed on public land and road reserves. Warning letters will be issued where electoral signs are erected without appropriate Council consent on private property if the signage does not comply with legislation governing electoral signage. Residents can report illegal electoral signage on 1300 735 025, emailing council@qprc.nsw.gov.au or lodging a request via our website at www.qprc.nsw.gov.au or the Snap Send Solve app.
