Police say the 35-year-old woman, who knew the alleged offender, was held against her will at a unit in Burwood on Monday evening.
They say she was attacked, before being lifted over the balcony of the unit.
She was able to safely reach the balcony below and was helped down by nearby residents, escaping without injury.
Police on Wednesday morning executed a search warrant at the Burwood unit, arresting a 36-year-old man and seizing electronic devices.
The man has been charged with six offences including assault and stalking.
He has been refused bail and will appear in Burwood Local Court on Thursday.
