Jason McWhirter from the NSW Rural Fire Service will help small landholders prepare their rural property for summer in the upcoming webinar.
He is the District Officer, Lake George Zone for the NSW Rural Fire Service. In this role Mr McWhirter implements strategic organisational programs to reduce the risk to the community from bushfire and other emergencies.
He provides a range of practical support to bushfire brigades and the community through training, equipment maintenance and community engagement events.
McWhirter has a long history of volunteer fire fighting and many years of practical experience planning for bushfires.
"With the bushfire season danger period starting on the October 1 now is the right time to be checking your fire plan and finalising actions to get your rural property bushfire season ready," Small Farms Network Capital Region Coordinator Alex James said.
"At this webinar, Mr McWhirter will talk about identifying and reducing existing fire hazards on your property, mapping, finalising your bushfire plan, livestock planning, firefighting equipment and Rural Fire Service access to your property."
In the webinar, he will cover bushfire season planning, useful equipment for fire management, what to do in an emergency bushfire situation and guide through the process of creating a plan of action when it comes to bushfires.
The event will be held online using the Zoom webinar. Attending the webinar is free but bookings are essential. Bookings can be made at smallfarmscapital.org/events.
