The 60-year-old has pleaded not guilty to two charges of sexual penetration of a child under 16, related to the alleged abuse of a 14-year-old boy at his then-home in Coburg, in Melbourne's north, in 2005.

Corfe, who now calls Queensland home and is on bail, will stand trial in Victoria's County Court.

He was charged after returning to Victoria in May this year, nearly a year after the alleged victim came forward to police.

The man first reported the abuse to Victoria Police in June last year.

In court documents, Detective Senior Constable Anna Steele, said the then-teen and Corfe had communicated on MSN Messenger and by email before meeting in person.

He provided police with seven pages of emails between himself and a person emailing from a "davidcoburg" account, which officers later discovered was registered to a "David Winston" in Coburg.

She said the alleged victim had given her an address in Coburg where he said the abuse occurred, but contacted her again in July last year to say he believed it was incorrect.

Det Steele said he had remembered a number was spray-painted prominently on the outside of the house and after searching Google Map images from 2009 came across an address with a spray-painted number.

She said he told her he was "100 per cent certain" that the abuse had occurred at that house.

Licence checks confirmed Corfe had lived there between 2002 and 2012, she said.

The complainant gave evidence behind closed doors on Wednesday morning in a committal hearing before magistrate Kieran Gilligan.

A friend of the man, who gave evidence later, said the man disclosed the abuse to him in one conversation, but only disclosed Corfe as the alleged offender later.

"I know he was a little uncomfortable disclosing the identity of the person at the time of the initial conversation," the friend said.

The friend said he wasn't a football follower and didn't know who Corfe was when his friend named him as his alleged attacker.

He said his friend, who was also "absolutely not" an AFL follower, had showed him a photo of Corfe on Google.

Corfe is due to face the County Court on January 19, 2022.
