A Bradman World XI captained by the West Indian - rated by Wisden as the greatest one-day batsman of all time - and a University of Wollongong XI led by Adam Gilchrist will do battle at the university in the fourth annual Stumping Serious Diseases Twenty20 match.

The initiative aims to raise funds for the university's health and medical research programs, which tackle cancer treatment, neuroscience and mental health issues, diabetes and young people's health.

Sir Viv's World XI has a distinctively Caribbean feel to it with Brian Lara and Carl Hooper likely to draw a crowd with their big hitting. Other notable players include Pakistani bowler Waqar Younis, New Zealand all-rounder Scott Styris and Englishmen Adam Hollioake and Graeme Hick, among others.

The Wollongong XI is sure to create a few headaches for Sir Viv with Gilchrist to be joined by batsman Damien Martyn and all-rounders Michael Bevan and Tom Moody.

The University of Wollongong's director of external relations, Canio Fierravanti, has warned cricketing fans not to leave their run for tickets too late.

''The event is in its fourth year and keeps getting bigger and bigger, with huge names of the game increasingly involved,'' Fierravanti said.

''There are only 1500 tickets available and we're expecting it to be full, so if cricket fans want to be able to say they caught a Viv Richards or Adam Gilchrist six, they'll have to get in fast.''

Fierravanti is confident the event will offer entertainment for all the family. ''We are immensely excited by the event,'' he said. ''I don't think you're ever going to see this calibre of cricketers, especially in Wollongong, all on the same field. There are a couple of big-hitters there, so no doubt the crowd will be involved.''

The UOW vice-chancellor, Professor Paul Wellings, says the event is a great way for the community to get involved with the university while enjoying themselves.

''UOW's annual Stumping Serious Diseases cricket event is a great way for the university and the community to come together to support the important work of the university's health and medical researchers, and see some of the best cricketers who have ever played the game,'' he said.
