The Traves of Woodlock Poll Dorset Stud are celebrating their success at this year's Canowindra Show, with one of their rams taking out both the Supreme Champion Poll Dorset Ram of the Show and the Supreme Champion Ram of the Show, All British Breeds. The ram's potential was glimpsed last year, when it was awarded Supreme Ram Lamb of the 2002 Canowindra Show. Judges described the 140 plus kilogram animal as being of "good scale, a well balanced and well muscled ram, being an excellent example of the Dorset type”. The ram, sired by a 246/00 "Gloroy” ram purchased for top price at the stud's annual sale in 2002 has proven a real winner for the Traves, also taking out the Supreme Champion Ram at the Orange Show. Its win was one of several for the Traves at this year's show, with other exhibits from the stud also winning First in Woolly Lamb, Second in Ram Lamb and First in Ewe Lamb. Roger Traves said this year's results were "certainly up there” for overall success for its years of showing at Canowindra. "At Woodlock, we concentrate on keeping good type and well-muscled rams.” "We're next looking at celebrating twenty years of Poll Dorset breeding, in conjunction with 50 years of Poll Dorsets across the country.”.
