MOVIE fans are preparing the popcorn for a night of entertainment under the stars in a one-off drive-in experience. Wagga council will host a drive-in movie night featuring Bohemian Rhapsody, the true-story adaptation of mega-group Queen, this Friday at the Cross Street car park. Visitor economy and events coordinator Fiona Hamilton said they have been searching for different ways to return community events that are covid-safe after the pandemic has forced many to cancel. "We had been working on the idea of hosting a drive-in cinema for community entertainment for some time," she said. "The evening is about kick-starting the long-weekend with something that's a bit different and gives people the chance to get out of the house with friends or as a date night and enjoy a night of nostalgia." Although there will be no food options available on site, Ms Hamilton said movie-goers are encouraged to bring their own snacks or support local eateries by picking up a takeaway meal. She said tickets are being sold prior to the event with space for 150 vehicles with smaller cars at the front and larger cars at the back "to ensure everyone has the best viewing experience". "When you arrive, you'll be directed to tune in a unique FM radio frequency so you can listen from your very own car or device," she said. "To adhere to COVID regulations, no tickets will be sold at the gate, so get in quickly to avoid disappointment." Tickets can be found at 'The Drive-in: Bohemian Rhapsody' event on Wagga Events Facebook page.
