The boys finished their season on a high note on Friday night defeating Crookwell 42-22 to finish third. In what turned out to be one of their best games of the year the boys played beautiful rolling rugby to dominate throughout. Captain Callum as usual led by example and was rewarded with 3 tries to show the boys how it was done. Ned must have been watching because he then ran in 3 himself. Agus picked up a try of his own while playing on the wing and Zac scurried through half a dozen defenders to score as well, which he then converted. With Harry and Kane demoralising the Crookwell forwards at the rucks good ball was going out to the backs which Darcy and Reece made the most of with some fancy footwork and brilliant passing.
Defense was the name of the game and all the boys attacked anything that came near them to the point where none of the opposition wanted the ball.
Not happy with just winning the boys then threw themselves with gusto into the water fight that followed the game and convincingly won that as well. On behalf of Marcus and myself we would like to thank the team for their efforts this year. It’s been a pleasure to be involved with such a great team of young men. Thanks boys and well done.

It was Jake Waters and Sam Watson that quickly their hands hand up as Crookwell Pups looked for additional players. Both the boys relished in the opportunity to put the hits on their mates in the last game of the season. Led by Luke Mcgrath on his birthday the boys controlled the ruck and made steady yards up the middle due to solid running and support play from Nelson, Josh and Robbie. With some great darting runs Ferg distributed the ball to our fast men Jono and Leroy who made good yards up the sides. Harrison and Sam with their usual vigour put some on great tackles. The tackle of the game went to Jake Waters as he brought Harrison to the ground as he streaked to the try line.
Some great rugby was shown by both sides as Braidwood controlled the ball and the ruck only to be let down our commitment to one on one tackles. As the game ended it was James Flack who was called back by the referee as he streaked away to the try line. I look forward to next seeing the boys play rugby next year after six months on tackling their fathers in the off season. Thanks for a great year boys Greg and I enjoyed the entire season.

What a finale! The last game of the season for the mighty under 8's and they left the best till last. It was a hard fought match which saw unbelievable commitment from the whole team. There was actually blood, sweat and tears. It was such a team effort which saw maiden tries to Will Sullivan and then Adelaide Wall to take us into the half time two up. We came back into the second half and fought of a ferocious attack from the opposition but one missed tackle resulted in the first opposition try and the they were like lightning for their second only minutes from the bell. This coach has to admit he thought it was going to be yet another draw. We had one last chance with a scrum 10 meters out. The scrum was set, tactics discussed, William Mortimer was going to get the ball from the back of the scrum and give it to freight train Amy Clarke who has been able to hold up entire opposition teams this season and drag them to the line. But wait her brother Ryan didn't hear about the set play and he just waltzed in picked up the ball from the back of the scrum and bolted to score the try while the rest of us just stood there and looked at each other in amazement. Sometimes good things occur when kids don't listen!! We had one our first and only match of the season on the final bell. I thought I'd heard it all when I heard one of team yell " We won the final". I would like to thank all the parents/siblings for their support especially the dads at training and Joel Clarke as assistant coach in my absence. To the team you were great fun, at times a bit like herding butterflies but in the end a magnificent group of well drilled and committed rugby players. Congratulations.

Season 2014 will be one to remember. Though the opposition every week was Goulburn, by no means were the Redbacks playing the same team every week. Both sides steadily improved and the games were more tightly contested as the season progressed. Future champions began to shine through.
The result didn’t matter last Friday. Both sides played in the spirit of free flowing rugby. They threw the ball around and ran as hard as they could. And when the game was over they embraced each other and reflected on the battles. Everyone roundly cheered and then hung up their boots on their first season of Rugby.
Well done and congratulations, Redbacks U6s. It was a season thoroughly enjoyed by everyone.
