SERAS receives funding from 9 of the 10 Local Government Authorities within its region but it has not received any financial support from Palerang Council since 2006. Although this sponsorship does not replace the lack of support from Council it does go a long way to ensure that talented young athletes from the Palerang community continue to receive services from the academy.
Executive director Garry Lane said: “It’s wonderful to have the Braidwood and Bungendore Community Bank Branches as supporters of the academy for the next two years. The academy shares similar values to these community branches and the people they seek to provide services for. Up to 2014 the academy had provided 65 athlete scholarships to the Palerang community with cross country mountain biker Joshua Daniher (Braidwood) and triathlete Lauren Elliott (Bungendore) receiving scholarships in 2015. The academy still has up to eight more programs to offer this year so hopefully we can support more local athletes.”
