Eight former councillors from the former Queanbeyan City and Palerang councils have been appointed to the Queanbeyan-Palerang Local Representation Committee. Although Expressions of Interest from members of the public were invited, none were chosen for the committees.

The Committee will be chaired by former Palerang Mayor, Pete Harrison and will include:

• Mark Schweikert
• Trudy Taylor
• Sue Whelan OAM
“I extend my congratulations to the eight former councillors who have been appointed to the Local Representation Committee,” Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional Council Administrator, Mr Tim Overall said.
“We had a strong response to the expression of interest from former councillors and members of public and I sincerely thank all who submitted an Expression of Interest and for being so proactive in supporting the establishment of the Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional Council.
“The formation of this Local Representation Committee will be important to Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional Council as we move forward and develop the new Council in the lead up to the September 2017 election. The Committee will hold its first meeting on Friday 17 June to induct the members, make them familiar with the terms of reference, the model Code of Conduct and how they will relate to the Administration in undertaking their duties.”
Members of the Committee will be remunerated at a rate equal to the former Queanbeyan City Council allowance for councillors. .
The role of the Committee will be to:
• Provide advice on local views and issues
• Provide input to the Operational Plans 2016-17 and 2017-18
• Advise on the communication and engagement plan for the community
• Provide input to the statement of vision and priorities
• Assist to engage communities and partners in planning for the new council
Members of the Committee will also assist the Administrator in participation on certain statutory, regional, Section 355 and organisational committees as well as panels.
Council elections will not be held until September 2017.
