I wish to thank those who attended the community meetings at Captains Flat and Bungendore over the past two weeks. Attendance has been good and I appreciate the constructive community feedback into the work Council is doing. The community meetings continue with Queanbeyan on Wednesday 9 November following the scheduled Council meeting and Braidwood’s on Wednesday 16 November from 6pm. If you have something you would like discussed at a meeting please go to – http://www.qcc.nsw.gov.au/Online-Forms/Community- meetings
Final preparations for the big weekend of events on 28-30 October are in place. The weekend includes the annual Clearwater Sculpture Prize, with sculptures installed around the Queanbeyan River able to be viewed throughout the weekend. The River Festival headlines Saturday, with boat races, the Enviro Expo, lantern making and stand-up paddle boards some of the entertainment available. The Art Trail 2016 continues the exciting weekend on Sunday where participants will be able to gain exclusive access to artist’s studios in Queanbeyan, Braidwood and surrounds. Tickets are available for a bus tour of the artist’s studios from The Q. The Brad Haddin Oval: It was great to have Brad in attendance at the official re-naming of the Queanbeyan Town Park Oval to The Brad Haddin Oval. This continues a long and proud tradition in Queanbeyan of naming sporting facilities in recognition of the sporting achievements of the city’s finest sporting stars. Brad played his junior cricket in Queanbeyan before becoming one of Australia’s most successful wicketkeeper-batsmen.
Council staff and contractors have been hard at work getting the pools ready for the upcoming summer season. In Bungendore, the required refurbishments have been completed and the pool is now ready to open. Both Braidwood and Captains Flat pools are well on their way towards completion and Council is looking forward to opening the season on 29 October. Season passes can be purchased from Council’s Braidwood and Bungendore branches as well as the Queanbeyan Aquatic Centre. The passes will be available for collection when the pools open.
Nominations are open for the Citizen of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year and Event of the Year. Nominations for the awards close at 5pm on Wednesday December 7. I look forward to the presentation of awards to the winners at events in Queanbeyan, Braidwood, Bungendore and Captains Flat. Nomination forms can be found on Council’s website.
