The Black Widows have finished fifth out of the 10 teams in the whole Super Sevens competition, which is a fantastic result for a group of women who had never played rugby two months ago!

Saturday was the fourth and final leg of the Brumbies Womens Super Sevens, held in Canberra. Due to the strong wins at the last comp in Braidwood, the Black Widows were in rated in the top 6 and subsequently graded in Pool A with the stronger teams in the comp vying for the Cup.
In their first game the Widows played Canberra Royals and went down 32-7 with Melissa Knight scoring the Black Widows’ single try. In their second game the Black Widows went down to the Tuggeranong Vikings 34-7, with Melissa Knight again scoring the try.
Due to injuries in the Marlins side, the Black Widows won their final game through forfeit. However, keen to keep playing, the teams still played a highly entertaining mixed team game.
Congratulations to all the girls, coach George, support staff Tom, Blackie and Bowie! Thanks to our majors sponsors Braidwood Community Bank and Nova systems, and to all the volunteers and supporters who have made the Widows’ first season a great experience.
The Black Widows, alongside the mens and juniors sides are considering entering a women’s 15 a side team in the Canberra competition next year. All interested players please contact Nick on 0488 519284.
