Deck The Halls
Make sure you get down to the Deck The Halls party in your town to celebrate the end of the year with your community. Bungendore’s celebration is on Saturday 3 December at Mick Sherd Oval and Braidwood’s on Saturday 10 December at Ryrie Park/Wilson St. Both celebrations have brilliant community input, food stalls, a visit from the man in red as well as entertainment from the excellent Fireflies and Drumassault.
Captains Flat Floodplain
After multiple stages of community consultation since December 2014, Council adopted the Captains Flat Floodplain Risk Management Plan at last week’s meeting. Council is pursuing funding assistance in order to implement the high and medium priority management recommendations from the report. These include, among other items, river corridor vegetation management, information transfer to SES, development of a flood warning system and a public awareness and education campaign.
Streamlined Planning Process
Council proposes to establish a Planning and Strategy Committee to be held on the second Wednesday of each month, in place of an Ordinary Meeting of Council. This proposed change will achieve better engagement between Council and those interested in planning matters. The Committee will be less formal than a Council meeting which will allow for questions to be asked and answered and for planning matters to be examined in greater detail. Interested parties and Council staff will be able to present to this Committee and the Committee will allow for greater flexibility with the public regarding planning and strategic land-use matters. This Committee will have full delegation to determine matters before it, so matters will not have to go to another Council meeting.
Heritage Community Representatives sought
Council is seeking two representatives to serve on the Palerang Heritage Advisory Committee until September 2017. This Committee assists Council to provide advice and recommendations, where appropriate, to Council on heritage conservation and management and development control plans pertaining to the whole Council area; assist in the review of Council’s current heritage conservation management initiatives; and deal with heritage issues at a strategic level. There is information on our website and in regular Council advertising.
