Braidwood will finally have a town clock, located on the roof of the Braidwood Community Bank. But Baby Ben will be no ordinary clock, far from it! On either side of the clock face will be metal figures depicting the history of Braidwood, from the aboriginals, to the bush rangers, the gold diggers and our agricultural history. On the hour, not only will Baby Ben chime, but the figures will give a slight movement. You will also be able to see the time at night.
Senior Manager of the Community Bank, Craig Pettit said “We were looking at what to give the Braidwood and surrounding district to celebrate 15 years of community banking in Braidwood. We came up with the idea of Baby Ben as every country town needs a clock. Our vision is that Baby Ben will be a destination point for people to come and see, which will in turn see these tourists visit our shops, museum, side streets to view the architecture of our buildings, to visit our Information Centre and take brochures of our national parks. All of this will see business and economic growth to our district. It is something that will be unique not only to Braidwood, but NSW.”
The official opening of Baby Ben will take place on Friday, the February 16, beginning at 11.30am. The Deputy Premier and Member for Monaro John Barilaro will unveil Baby Ben.
Wallace Street will be closed from Duncan Street to Lascelles Street from 11.15am to 1.30pm to allow safety for school students and residents of Braidwood.
We invite everyone to turn up to the opening of Baby Ben and enjoy the ceremony, the Baby Ben biscuits, a sausage sandwich and be entertained by Bendigo Piggy.
If you have any questions regarding the opening, please contact Craig Pettit or Nick Fry at the Braidwood Community Bank.
