Around 15 rugged-up people gathered to share stories of Indigenous women who impacted their lives in significant ways. Everyone was welcome, with Cr Peter Marshall and Senior Constable Hayden Govers, making the trip from Captains Flat.
Some of the inspirational yarns included acknowledgements and memories of renowned Murri elder Maureen Watson of Birri Gubba decent, Tjanara Goreng Goreng, a Wakka Wakka Wulli Wulli traditional owner, and all the Indigenous mothers whose children have been taken from them.
Special mention was made of the finding of Mungo Lady exactly 50 years ago. This finding changed our understanding of the length of time this land has been inhabited. Mungo Man is better known, but it was Mungo Lady who was found first, and perhaps “Because of her ...”
