The fires at Nowra, Ulladulla and Bemboka are all still burning out of control.
According the Rural Fire Service, the Snowy Mountains Highway, which was closed at Bemboka yesterday, is now reopened. There are unconfirmed reports of property loss in that area where the fire has so far burnt through 3000 hectares.
Firefighters at the Nowra fire are taking advantage of the calmer conditions to conduct backburning and again, there are unconfirmed reports of property loss.
The fire to the west of Ulladulla has now burnt through 1300 hectares and firefighters are backburning. Heavy plant is being used to consolidate containment lines around the fire.
Braidwood RFS Brigade Captain, Scott Hart, said that, “The window for hazard reductions has closed. Given the continuing dry blustery conditions, please refrain from lighting fires at all. We are seeing highly unusual weather conditions meaning you do not have the control you think you have.”
The weather forecast for the weekend is for more wind and continuing dry.
