Mr Waters was "honoured" to be recognised for his contribution and has been involved with the radio station for nine years. He said it had become more important in the past few months with the need to provide real-time updates on the bushfires crisis. Braidwood FM also marked its 17th anniversary on January 26 this year.
Braidwood's Young Citizen of the Year is Isabella Hindmarsh, who has done the town proud as a representative player in soccer. (See back page.)
The Event of the Year in Braidwood was the United Hospital Auxiliary's 'Monopoly' fundraiser, which were sold out in less than two weeks, raising more than $28,000 for the hospital. A special Mayoral Award was presented to the NSW Rural Fire Service - Lake George Zone Rural Fire Service volunteers for their tireless efforts to protect lives and property this summer.
Bungendore
Citizen of the Year: Garry Cook, a tireless and selfless member of its Rotary Club and other local committees. Young Citizen of the Year: Patrick Love, a community-minded and keen member of the local RFS and Scouts group.
Captains Flat
Citizen of the Year: Donald Cameron, integral in establishing its Men's Shed. Event of the Year: Captains Flat Fishing Club, which organised fishing competitions at various locations in and around NSW.
Queanbeyan
Citizen of the Year: Neil Phillips, who has represented Australia in jujitsu and is now a passionate coach who is a positive influence on children's lives, instilling confidence and self-defence skills. Young Citizen of the Year: Chynna Marston, who rescues retired racehorses and re-educates them to find them new homes. Event of the Year: 'Women of Queanbeyan' Calendar launch, which raised more than $80,000 in one night for the Rise Above charity.
