The Braidwood Heritage Society is getting in full swing organising at least 3 major events - to begin with: Foundation Day in April, the Braidwood Community Bank Heritage Parade on 3 May and the Braidwood & Bungendore Community Banks Heritage Art prize, also occurring in May.
About the Parade - there is a lot to do still: while the Parade will have vintage cars, vintage bikes, horses, bullock train, carriages, floats, there is a lot more to organise and confirm. We will betalking to organisations and individuals but you do not have to wait for us to ask - you are being asked to organise a float. There will be an extended Heritage Market, occupying every bit of Ryrie Park and more. As for activities and entertainment: Tug-o-War, boot painting, face painting, sheep shearing, carousel, displays and more.
About Foundation Day: if all goes well, commemorative bricks would go on sale shortly - stay tuned. The start of the event will happen in Ryrie Park, including ceremonies and a family picnic, and is planned to conclude with a walk to Braidwood Wilson's grave.
About the Heritage Art Prize - it is managed by a joint Heritage Association/BRAG working group and details will be published in the Braidwood Times on 12 February and will be available on at least 3 websites! Entries will be open to any residents within the 2622 and 2621 post codes, entries will have to fit within a theme and meet criteria and conditions. Entries will be judged and the Prize awarded by a Panel - its members will not be from within Braidwood & Bungendore and its arts communities. All entries will be exhibited at the National Theatre, the Arts Centre and St Bede's Hall. The Prizes? $3000 first prize (adult), $500 People's Choice Award (adult), $1,250 first prize (junior) and $250 People's Choice Award (junior).
