First guest speaker was Samantha Callan, a past recipient of the grant. She conveyed her gratitude to the Foundation for the assistance that the grant afforded her whilst she studied Accounting. Second Guest Speaker was Mr Geoffrey White, founder of Mundango and BDEF Sponsor. Mr White remarked upon the advantages of being born in Australia, being young, having access to the technology age and having the support of this community. He also provided some insightful advice about life including a line from the Rudyard Kipling poem ‘If’: ‘”…If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster and treat those two impostors just the same…”
The BDEF has been in operation for nine years, and due solely to the generosity of donations from the community, they have been able to provide assistance of $237,000 to 147 students over that period. The BDEF is one of the few in the group of 42 Country Education Foundations to recognize Trades and Apprenticeships alongside tertiary degrees. This assistance includes not only a financial grant, but also support in the form of a peer mentor program.
