Stage two of slope stabilisation work on the Kings Highway between Pooh Bear Corner and the top of Clyde Mountain are underway after a further rockfall last Wednesday.

Member for Monaro John Barilaro said "Stage one work was carried out last year to remove vegetation, rocks and boulders from the slope to increase stability and prepare for the installation of more permanent protective measures.
"Work on stage two will involve the installation of more robust fencing, rock bolts and netting. This will provide more permanent stability for the slope and is expected to significantly reduce the risk of future landslides onto the road.”
Work will be carried out on weekdays from 7am to 6pm and is expected to take about 15 weeks to complete, weather permitting.
Roads and Maritime is not planning extensive closures on the Kings Highway as part of this work which will be mainly carried out under single lane closures with motorists guided through the work site by traffic control.
Work will not take place on weekends or during times of increased traffic on Monday mornings and Friday afternoons. Work will also be suspended from Thursday 17 April to Monday 28 April to improve traffic flow during the school holidays.
Work is expected to be completed by mid-July, weather permitting, Monday to Thursday between 7am and 6pm and Friday from 7am to 3pm. No work will be carried out between 12pm Thursday 17 April and 12pm Monday 28 April 2014. Single lane closures will be in place during work times, motorists should expect minor delays. All lanes will be open to traffic after work each day.
There is one full seven hour closure planned for late April which will be carried out between 9am and 4pm. Some blasting will be carried out as part of the work. The exact date will be communicated three weeks in advance. Detours are lengthy and motorists will be advised to avoid non-essential travel during closure times.
