Last weekend a lively new exhibition began at The Left Hand. Called Eccentrics, the show includes five artists, three of them from Canberra - Colin Edgell, Clinton De Vere and Eadie Newman - as well as local, Sam Kidd, and former Braidwoodian, Phil Day, who now lives in Melbourne.

All five make pictures with an engaging freedom from the tedious shadow of art-world fashion. This might seem a negative recommendation, but is in fact wonderfully indicative of how they have developed their own visual imagination and pursued it with natural verve.
The images of all five have strong qualities of graphic exploration as well as a playful and, at times, satirical take on human affairs.
The exhibition continues for the next two weekends, the 13&14 and 20&21 September, and is open from 10am-5pm or by appointment, at 81 Lascelles Street. Phone 02 4842 7189 or 0422 530846
