The Braidwood Junior Soccer Club experienced another successful season in 2014 and will be building in the off season to establish the foundations for a successful season in 2015. The Club has evolved over the past 4 seasons going from a locally run community club that is unique in its grassroots structure with 190 players from 3 to 16 playing each Saturday morning at the rec ground in Keder Street to a developing representative arm in Palerang United with 33 senior players and 35 junior players taking on Canberra’s competitions with teams in men, women, girl and boy leagues in a home and away winter season. This also saw 5 local teams play in the Kanga Cup in July in Canberra in the largest youth tournament in the Southern Hemisphere, with our u/9s taking home the Fair play award.

In 2014 we also helped create our Bungendore arm of the club known as Bungendore Community Soccer playing under the Braidwood Junior Soccer Clubs community football structure. The success of the first season for our Bungendore arm was largely due to the taste strategy, with the club providing community football for 5 to 8 year olds. This saw 60 registered players playing each Saturday morning at the main field in Bungendore and creating the foundation of a potential sleeping giant in the district. With plans next season of stretching the registrations out to 10 years of age i am sure we will see close to 100 players running around having fun playing community football in Bungendore.
The Braidwood Junior Soccer Clubs vision of a representative arm that truly encompasses the strength of the entire shire is in its infancy however the foundation has been laid and the only way is up if cohesion and unity is managed well into the future and a future breeding ground for Palerang United to become a competitive club in Canberra.
Two seasons ago the Braidwood Junior Soccer Club also helped Crookwell Junior Soccer Club stand alone and develop its Community Junior Football Club after years of discontent in the Southern Tablelands Football Association and the prospect of rising fees and travel each week into Goulburn under a STFA and Football NSW restructure. Crookwell now have their Juniors to under 12s playing at home each week making it an enjoyable and affordable experience for the younger players of Crookwell.
This has now seen the potential for some gala days between the three community clubs next season with a Community Challenge Cup being played for over 3 gala days throughout the season. Each Committee will be working together to plan the structure of the gala days and they will be incorporated into the calendar next season.
GALA DAY
Unfortunately the scheduled gala day for the 11th of October in Braidwood has been postponed to next season due to Crookwell struggling for teams for that date.
