Unity Mining has declared war on Majors Creek and Eurobodalla. It seems somewhat ironic that Unity Mining chose the 11th November - Armistice Day - upon which to make public its intentions to significantly alter and amend its mine operations in relation to the Dargues Reef Mine. If these amendments gain approval, it will be the final nail in the coffin for our community and environment.

The previous approval of a tailing dam facility in itself places in great jeopardy on our community’s well being. The addition of cyanide processing onsite will place large quantities of arsenic and other heavy metals into our environment over large distances - polluting and endangering the health and well being of generations to come.
The advent of the mine seems assured to poison and/or remove all our existing groundwater, placing us all in a very tenuous situation. Without water we die - we cannot eat or drink gold.
Unity Mining are in the process of withdrawing from their Bendigo operations in Victoria. Leaving a small agricultural community bathed in pollution - unable to drink their rainwater, unable even to leave their homes when the wind blows and covers their community in arsenic from the mine’s evaporation tailings facility. Unity have stated that it is not in their economic plan to rehabilitate this disastrous and devastating situation at this time.
Where are our elected representatives when we need them, or, more to the point, why do they choose to legislate against us. Surely our children will revile us when this land and water are poisoned, on this driest continent on the planet.
It is time to say no to such unsustainable and destructive practices.
