Have we been thrown a life line to resolve this disastrous ‘pedestrian crossing’ fiasco which has left Braidwood with two traffic calming blisters, which are an eyesore in the main street and which have done nothing to calm traffic through the town, nor assist pedestrians, the elderly and our school children crossing Wallace street.

The Heritage Minister has announced the monies are available to enable local communities to “protect and preserve their rich cultural and architectural heritage”.
He goes on to say that the NSW Government is committed to maintaining vibrant rural communities, and funding heritage projects.
Bingo - there’s your solution.
Braidwood is Heritage Listed. It has been our iconic heritage main street that has attracted many tourists and two major Australian movies to be made here. A great boost to our economy.
Our ‘Zebra’ Crossing at the top of Wallace St worked. All the town wanted was a second ‘Zebra’ Crossing opposite the National Theatre. Simple.
Now with a Heritage Grant, we could return the areas of the new traffic calming blister disasters to zebra crossings. Reinstate some of our much needed parking spaces and rediscovering our beautiful granite block gutters.
We could even probably rediscover the original patina of the top crossing, and repeat it opposite the National Theatre.
How and why did this project become such a mess?
