When Goulburn Mulwaree Council planned this bridge it was determined to provide a structure that gave continuous access across the Shoalhaven River in the majority of floods. Last weekend’s rain event has clearly shown that the height if this bridge will still allow motorist to pass over it even in moderate to high rainfall events.
Mayor Geoff Kettle said “I am proud of this Council’s achievements - this is yet another example of improved infrastructure where the community benefits greatly. With a roads budget amounting to just under $13.5 million for the 2016/17 financial year we will continue to invest in the infrastructure of Goulburn Mulwaree.”
Over 150mm fell over Saturday, Sunday and Monday in the Shoalhaven catchment area, resulting in significant rising flood water. The water reached just under the 7m mark at the peak on Monday afternoon; however the new bridge easily cleared this, allowing traffic to move freely in both lanes.
Council will also be officially opening the Kippilaw Bridge in the coming weeks as works are completed on the project. The bridge is expected to be open to traffic by the 20th of June.
