We took the debate online, and to the streets, asking various community members the question: “It’s going to be 40°C on Saturday, do you think the Braidwood Races should proceed?”
Opinion was mixed. “It’s two hard on the horses,” said Irene Stutchbury, while Mark Harding said that compared to his experience riding horses long distance half an hour was nothing.
“They’re only out there for a short time,” he said, “the back in the paddock.”
“If it was cancelled now and the forecast was not correct, well then you’ve lost that opportunity for the Braidwood races,” said Jennie Sutherland, who believes that the decision should be held off until the last minute.
