The Premier’s recent announcement means there is now certainty regarding the future of our merged Council. Council is focused on delivering services to the community and providing vital infrastructure. The $10 million Stronger Communities Fund supplied to new councils is being invested in local infrastructure projects. Late last year, the first round of this fund went to support local community groups and the second round is currently on exhibition for community comment. Some of the proposed major infrastructure projects include improvements for the Braidwood and Bungendore main streets, restoration of Rusten House in Queanbeyan, an upgrade project on Lascelles St in Braidwood, construction of a dog park in Googong and many more. Merged council highlights
Highlights of the merged council so far include developing a Tourism Strategy for the local government area, and infrastructure projects including the major roadwork project at Stoney Creek on Captains Flat Road. In this project the new Council was able to deliver a more comprehensive rehabilitation project than was originally planned by the former councils. The water and sewer teams have been working together to bring a major water main upgrade at Uriarra Road in Crestwood, which started only days after completing the new water trunk main for the Braidwood township. Other benefits include savings of $120,000 per year on a combined tender process for chemicals used at the pools and the water and sewage treatment plants; and continuing to install solar panels on Council buildings to save approximately $30,000 per year on electricity costs and reduce emissions. Some of the community highlights include bringing everyone together at the Christmas celebrations and the Q-One activation and outdoor cinema events just last month.
