The boys played three separate games against Warilla, Dapto and Bombaderry High Schools, larger schools which fielded players who had been on the rep scene for many years. Each skip on the opposing teams had represented Combined High School bowling at the elite state level. The games were tight affairs, with neither side gaining an advantage on the world class Warilla indoor greens.
Team Braidwood led at many stages of each game, even leading the home side 3-0 after the first two ends. The boys lost vital points towards the end of each match, due to the excellent placement of the opposing skips. At times Braidwood were holding up to five shots coming into the last bowl from the opposing skip, only to have a well-placed final bowl turn the advantage the opposition’s way.
Although the boys were not the overall winners of the day, the crowd appreciated their individual skill, and the South Coast bowls selectors were more impressed with the talent displayed by our team.
Thanks to the Braidwood Bowling Club who provided generous sponsorship and free membership to the club for each student. Thanks also to the members of the club who gave their time to help the boys and provide competition during game-time training drills.
