Soils
Rob Lance, a retired local soil scientist and TAFE head of conservation and land management, will focus on local major soil types and their influence on the range of local native plants found in our region. Some practical suggestions on how to detect and overcome some of their critical deficiencies/characteristics which may inhibit establishment and sustainable growth of a more diverse range of native plants.
Birds
Frank Antram, a member of the Australian Plant Society, has been observing birds in the local environment for many years. He will present on the past, present, and future of birds in the developing Goulburn wetlands. This will offer an insight into the potential for attracting birds by expanding native plantings on your land be it an urban garden or rural holding.
Bees
Dr Brian Faulkner, horticulturalist, and currently head of conservation and land management at TAFE Goulburn, will be talking about native bee species and their importance in pollination, the plants they prefer and how to encourage them to your garden by providing nesting habitat. He will all also discuss the benefits of pruning native plants.
The forum will be held at the Goulburn Workers Club’s large upstairs conference room, starting 9.30am for a 1pm finish on Saturday, July 1. Sign in at the front desk of the club.
A 30-minute break with a mid-morning tea will give attendees a chance to chat. For catering, RSVP to rcgalland1@bigpond.com by Thursday, June 29.
