Concept plans for the new MPS facility were announced on at a community information session on Tuesday night.
The new MPS will incorporate:
- 24 hour care
- Five new single inpatient rooms with ensuites, including a palliative care suit
- A modern emergency department,
- Triage rooms for emergency patients,
- Dedicated ED ambulance entry and ED waiting area,
- Flexible community health facilities and programs,
- New staff accommodation
- A ten bed increase in the capacity of the aged care facility
The facility has been designed to facilitate “aging in place,” with ten extra aged care beds for the community.
It is likely that most of the existing buildings on site will need to be removed to make way for new MPS buildings. Subject to the necessary approvals, construction is expected to begin on the site in late 2018.
The next steps towards building the hospital involve consultation with the clinical staff to develop the design further.
More to come.
