The Festival of Braidwood will have something on offer for everyone this weekend.
Patches of colour from the stunning quilts hung around the town provide the backdrop for a weekend of events including everything from antique cars at St Bede’s school to markets in Ryrie Park.
The National Theatre will be filled with quilts and textile art on display, with a indoor competition and a Braidwood Quilt Shop challenge. St Andrews Anglican, Braidwood Community Arts Centre and the Masonic Lodge will also be exhibiting colourful quilts.
Braidwood’s very own superhero, Garlic Man may even make an appearance at the Garlic Fiesta, on the western corner of Duncan and Wallace Streets. In its second year the Fiesta celebrates the harvest, with local fresh garlic and award winning black garlic available.
Cafes and eateries will be joining in the spirit, with garlic themed dishes made from local produce.
This year the annual Open Gardens are part of the festival too.
Six spectacular gardens will throw open their gates for visitors to enjoy, with two historic homesteads in the mix.
Parts of the Nithsdale Homestead will be open to the public, including its restored gaol. The homestead played a key role in the capture of notorious bushrangers the Clarke gang. Its current owners have spent the past 45 years restoring the gardens and rambling house, which is filled with antiques and rare objects.
At Mona, 120 acres have been developed in classic English country house style. The grounds feature a picturesque lake, stone bridge, poplar walk and elm wood bursting with bluebells, daffodils and jonquils.
