Staying up to date in an emergency

In response to Margaret Royds letter and the Editor’s suggestion that the community can keep up to date on Facebook regarding the fire situation - I have just emailed Dr Kelly again to remind about lack of local radio network in light of the recent fire danger days.

All news breaks were advising people to stay tuned to local ABC - something we don't have access to. Yes, I agree that many can stay connected on-line or by smart phone but this avenue of communication will leave some people out of the loop.

Can we foresee a day when perhaps we can all turn on our battery powered radios in the event of disasters and catch the latest ABC local news and emergency updates?
