Over two days at the end of last week, eleven Braidwood Central high school debaters from Years 7 to 10 attended the annual special two-day training camp at Batemans Bay, taking part in workshops will highly skilled trainers and mixing with their peers from across the region. While there, our zone-winning Year 9/10 team of Jessie Kay, Haddie Davies, Ruby Gurling and Lucy Baumann-Lionet, competed in the regional finals. They won their quarter-final against Moss Vale High, but lost the semi-final against Nowra High in an extremely close debate, evidenced by a split decision from the three adjudicators. The team has done wonderfully, coming third out of the twenty-six teams who competed in our region. Ruby Gurling was selected for our region’s inter-school team that will travel to Sydney University for the state finals. This is the fourth year in a row that a student from Braidwood Central has been chosen.
Generous support from Braidwood Community Bank and the BCS P&C paid half the costs of accommodation and training at the camp. This assistance has been invaluable in making high-quality debating and public speaking experience available in our school
