Police have confiscated a man’s car after he was allegedly caught driving at more than 60km/h over the speed limit near Braidwood in the state’s south yesterday.

About 10:25am, Saturday 20 October 2012, Officers attached to Monaro Highway Patrol were performing speed enforcement duties on the Kings Highway at Manar when they detected a ute travelling at excessive speed.
It will be alleged the ute was detected travelling west at 163km/h in the 100km/h zone.
The driver, a 35-year-old man from Belconnen (ACT), was stopped and issued with a $2,154 fine for exceeding the speed limit by more than 45km/h.
Police also confiscated his ute and suspended his driving privileges in NSW for six months.
Superintendent Stuart Smith, Operations Commander of the NSW Police Force’s Traffic and Highway Patrol Command, said these kinds of acts of stupidity can have tragic consequences.
“The simple fact is this man could have killed himself or other road users and it is lucky we stopped him before something more serious happened.
“He has now lost his car, his licence and a lot of money but what cost do you put on a life?
“There is no place on our roads for drivers like this and we will continue to target speeding motorists and those who choose to disobey the road rules,” said Superintendent Smith.
