Council has begun community consultation for streetscape and park upgrades in Bungendore and Braidwood. Queanbeyan-Palerang parks are some of the finest community assets and they are starting to look great with the warmer weather.
With the arrival of spring and all the recent rain Council is again faced with the major mowing task. Mowing crews are out and about on a scheduled work plan. We ask residents to be patient as crews seek to stay on top of the ongoing work load.
Stronger Communities Fund
The call for applications from community organisations, for up to a maximum of $50,000, has been highly successful with 103 applications received from across the entire local government area. The assessment panel met on 6 October and further meetings have been scheduled in coming weeks to assess the 103 applications individually, with the intent to report to Council at the end of October or early November.
Queen Elizabeth II Park
I recently had a site inspection of the progress at the park. There are some fantastic upgrades, such as an interactive water play space, a large terraced lawn amphitheatre, and an avenue of maple trees on either side of Collett St that is going to be spectacular once the trees become established. It will be great to see families and the community using the completed park in coming months. The official opening will be on 3 December and more details about the opening event will follow.
Collett St Traffic
As part of the park project there will be a road closure of the down ramp from Monaro St onto Collett St. Both entrances to Riverside Plaza underground carpark will remain open, however motorists will only be able to enter and exit via the roundabout at Morisset St. This should occur in the next two weeks. Please monitor Council’s website and social media for updates on the timing of these closures.
Motorcycle Awareness Week
“Spot Joe Rider” awareness campaign will be running as part of Motorcycle Awareness Week. In Queanbeyan between 17 and 23 October riders from the Stay Upright training centre will be wearing bright yellow vests with “Joe Rider NSW” on them. If you see one of these riders, when you complete your journey, visit the road safety page on Council’s website to log your view. Each entry will go into the draw to win one of 5 fuel vouchers.
