As race enthusiasts prepare for the annual Braidwood and District Education Foundation Melbourne Cup luncheon at Garanvale on November 1, excitement is reaching fever pitch.
Deciding what to wear on such an auspicious occasion only adds the day. The age old dilemna: ‘fascinator or hat?’ will undoubtedly be decided based on the weather, not to mention the ever important question: ‘which tie will I wear’?

Apparently any outfits featuring colour are winning the ‘Fashions on the Field’ competitions in the lead up to the Spring Carnival.
A sumptuous lunch will be supplied by Vanessa from Vanilla Catering and Karuana will again have music for race enthusiasts to enjoy. If the atmosphere is anything like last year, guests will take to the dance floor and dance the afternoon away following the ‘race that stops the nation.’
Of course some guests will be highly interested in the auction of the horses so capably undertaken by Anthony Atkinson, as they try and secure their ‘hot tip’, whilst other guests will be excited to draw a horse in the numerous sweeps available on the day.
With many and varied prizes, thanks to the generosity of the community, there is something for everyone – raffles, best dressed and lucky door prizes. The wonderful racy atmosphere has been enjoyed by all who have attended the BDEF’s previous Melbourne Cup luncheons.
Tickets are available from the Braidwood Bendigo Bank up to and including October 28. As the first Tuesday in November draws closer, we wish you good luck in deciding on your outfit, and be ready to enjoy another day of laughter, fun and hopefully a winning combination!
