Barefoot Bowls kicked off on Friday night with 10 teams of four players taking to the green.
There was a great atmosphere among all the competitors, despite several local rivalries at stake, with the CWA pitted against the VIEW Club and Braidwood Rural opposing Landmark. So evenly matched were the CWA and VIEW that they had to play an extra end to get a result.
Teams containing a mix of young and old, including Laurie Riley with ‘the Milky Bar Kids’ and Tom Watson with his team ‘the Misfits’, had the greatest weight of expectations riding on them, but each and every game played was filled with exciting moments. The possum was delighted to see so many age groups enjoying themselves and thought it was a wonderful evening.
The scoreboard stands at:
- The Milky Bar Kids (1 win + 7 ends)
- The Misfits, CWA and the Lost Team (1 win + 6 ends)
- Landmark (1 win + 5 ends)
The Lost Team made up of Troy Gordon, Todd Blows, Leon Bennett and one other, found its way to win the night’s $200 lucky draw.
At the conclusion of play Gory Kite and Barry Broadbent had plenty of sausage sandwiches ready for the players. More teams are expected in the coming weeks as this Friday clashed with several other events. Places will not be a problem as we have room for another 18 teams!
The Possum reminds readers that on Thursday or Sunday you can turn up at the Club at 12:30pm for a game. We have a room full of bowls just waiting for someone to roll them out onto the green and willing guides for anyone new to bowls.
