Tourists and locals turned out in droves for the annual Hanging of the Quilts and the all new Garlic Fiesta this Saturday. Quilts were displayed from balconies throughout the town, with special displays in the National Theatre and the school halls. Canberra Spinners and Weavers demonstrated their techniques while the ACT & Region Knitters Guild knitted away at their machines making scarves in minutes. The main street was completely parked up and packed with people wandering from shop to shop.
Ryrie Park Markets were bustling and local shops got into the occasion with garlic themed dishes. Vendors at the Garlic Fiesta reported that they were selling out of garlic, Garlic Man got into the occasion, with his festive belt of locally grown garlic. Local shops also reported that business had been excellent thanks to the huge number of tourists in the town.
