The possum had a busy bowls time this weekend with the final night of the Barefoot Bowls Competition on Friday night, a Mixed Pairs Championship game on Saturday and the second semi-final of the Fours Championship on Sunday.
The Barefoot Bowls players were blessed with four balmy Friday nights. Friday’s finale was a perfect summer evening, which saw 40 players enjoying several great games of bowls. The night concluded with a presentation from Bowls Club President Damian Campbell-Davies and Nick Fry from Braidwood Community Bank. The first presentation was an encouragement award to the Young Guns, a team composed of Sam and Robie Watson, Luke McGrath and Leroy Campbell-Davies. These young boys aged 12 and under had played each week, winning 18 ends but never a game –their persistence was an encouragement to all though.
The winners of the 2016 trophy, and the $200 prize, went to the Milky Bar Kids made up of Grand-Pa Laurie Riley, Hartley Tyler, his daughter and Nola Clarke. This team had won three games and drawn one, giving them 3½ points plus 25 ends. Other scores were as follows:
- The Lost Team (3+22)
- Misfits (2½+24)
- Landmark (2½+22)
- The CWA (2½+20)
- Corby’s Crusaders (2+9)
- Braidwood Rural (2+17)
- Big Show (1+18)
- View (1+16)
- The Young Guns (0+18)
Winners of the $200 lucky draw were team Big Show.
On Saturday Margaret and Stan Wisbey had an easy win to advance to the next round of the Mixed Pairs. On Sunday in the second semi of the Fours John Bunn, Gary Kiff, Chungy Young and Brad Hewitt Snr played a very close game against Tubby Cargill, Peter Camiller, Gorie Kite and Barry Broadbent. This was a game where there was only one shot difference for all but five ends, the score being a low 13 all at the 20th end. The winners will now face the team led by Jonathan Bunn. For those bowlers who don’t get to the club that often the nomination sheet for the 2017 singles championship are on the notice board.
