Central School Student Jay Davies has had her work chosen to be displayed in the Artexpress exhibition at the Art Gallery of NSW. Artexpress is an annual exhibition showcasing outstanding artworks from the HSC visual arts course.
Jay’s major work is a group of drawings depicting ‘within’, which she describes as “intimate studies of those closest to me” and the ‘without’, which are enlarged reproductions of the drawings placed in urban settings. Jay said “in the street my subjects became anonymous, photography documenting the insignificance of individual character and expression.”
Jay said that through this she “sought to free these personal pieces from social and cultural constructs, where the ‘within’ and ‘without’ were united.”
228 of the 9004 major works submitted were chosen for display at Artexpress. These works will be shown in nine exhibitions
Jay’s work will be on display at the Art Gallery of NSW from January 26 to April 23 and at Tamworth Regional Gallery.
