While all projects could be considered highlights, some are: improvements to town centres in Braidwood, Bungendore and Captains Flat, a dog park in Googong, the first stage of a Bungendore Recreation Ground, the resurfacing of three netball courts at Karabar, and Queanbeyan Park’s modern, accessible equipment.

The projects were chosen after community meetings, asset reviews, comittee assessments and public exhibition.

Construction of the new multi-purpose netball/basketball court at the Recreation Ground has started. These works will complete Stage 1 of the site’s redevelopment with a new multi-purpose building, BMX track, a court with lighting, drainage works, tree removal and replacement trees. The new court will be concrete with reversible goal posts to accommodate both sports.

The removal of trees was not a decision made lightly and three independent arborists were consulted.

The NSW Rural Fire Service has proposed the construction of a Rural Fire Station in Captains Flat. 

The proposal is currently on exhibition at the council’s Bungendore and Braidwood offices for public comment. 

You might recall an earlier proposal that was out of financial reach for the RFS when tenders were received.

The RFS has since developed a new proposal and will hope to find an affordable tender for the work.

In line with the merger ‘roadmap’ established by the NSW Department of Premier and Cabinet, councils are required to seek community feedback on interim directions and actions to guide the 2017-18 Operation Plan.

The plan is to be adopted before the new council is elected in September 2017.
