The Redbacks travelled to Jindabyne on Saturday for round two of the South Coast Monaro Rugby Competition. An injury depleted Redbacks side, with a squad of just 18, were soundly beaten 57-5 by Jindabyne.

Despite the blown-out scoreline, Braidwood dominated in the scrum. The starting front row of Nathan Moffitt, Bill Hatzis and Buzz McGloan dominated the opposition from the outset. Unfortunately for Braidwood, they were unable to capitalise the good ball, with Jindabyne defending strongly and using their speedy outside backs well.
The second half saw some positive signs from a Braidwood side that refused to give up. Coach George Sherriff entered the game at halfback, due to a growing injury list, with Kiwi Hopkins pushing out to five-eight. This sparked a 10-minute attack on the Jindabyne line from Braidwood. A magnificent break by Hopkins set up an eventual try by winger Ben Howard: a bright patch in a hard day for the Redbacks.
Three points and players player award went to Joel Jordon, who was tireless around the field all day. Two points went to Nathan Moffitt with one point to Redback hard man Cabe Graf. The Redbacks would like to thank Jindabyne for their hospitality after the game, which prepared the boys nicely for the bus trip home over the Badger.
This Saturday the Redbacks host the Taralga Tigers at home with kick off at 2:30pm. The Black Widows will also be playing this Saturday against Gungahlin with the girls kicking off at midday. Get down to the Rec Ground and support your local rugby!
