Palerang United began the game with only 10 players on a warm afternoon in Dickson. The game started slowly with both teams warming into the contest. It wasn’t long before Western Molonglo began to threaten Palerang’s backline which held strongly. 

Palerang got into the game and broke through Western Molonglo’s line to get a few shots on goal. Western Molonglo got quickly back into the game with a few chances before they scored a goal. The half played out evenly with the halftime score 1-0 to Western Molonglo. 

The second half saw a strong start from Palerang. The first 10 minutes they dominated with shots on goal. It wasn’t long before Courtney Doyle made a break through the back line and scored a beautiful goal making the scores tied 1-1. 

Palerang continued to lift and frustrated Western Molonglo. A few more close chances for Palerang could not produce a goal and Western Molonglo broke through, scoring a goal and taking the lead 2-1. 

Palerang didn’t give in and fought hard, eventually finding their second goal through the strong boot of Taylia Mercer to make the score 2-2. Palerang remained strong pushing hard to take the lead. Unfortunately, the only chance Western Molonglo got for 10 mins was another goal. Taking the lead 3-2. 

With only 10 players, Palerang began to tire and Western Molonglo took control of the game. They took on the Palerang backline which scurried to defend but Western Molonglo finally broke through and scored another goal. 

With the final blow for Palerang coming in the last 5 minutes, Western Molonglo were awarded a penalty in the box which no goalkeeper could have saved, making the lead 6-2. Palerang fought right to the end and worked hard but ran out of time. The final score finishing up as 6-2 to Western Molonglo. 

Despite their loss, Palerang played a strong game.

They take on Woden Valley at 2pm on May 28.
