Race one is scheduled to start at 2.52pm, so Southern Tablelands harness racing fans can look forward to a compact but very interesting card. The event is a $10,200 heat of the Kevin and Kay Seymour Evolution Series, restricted to three-year-old Breeders Challenge eligible pacers. The heat has drawn contestants from the Goulburn, South Coast and Metropolitan areas. The Goulburn area is well represented through the fillies Major Mai and Serene Sea, and the gelding Harry Day.
Harry Day, who is trained by club president Dennis Day, is the winner of three from five starts. He kicked off his three year old season with a first up win at Canberra when he rated a smart 1:58.7 win over the Daniel Rowell trained Roarn Under Fire. On that occasion the Courage Under Fire gelding lead from start to finish, sprinting strongly to the line in a quick 57.6 last half. From gate 6 Harry Day is likely to work forward and should be with the leaders when the field settles down.
The filly Major Mai is prepared by Windellama trainer Phillip Willis and will have the driving services of champion Sydney reinsman Luke McCarthy. The Major In Art filly was a Menangle winner in August, and most recently finished second behind Roarn Under Fire at Canberra during October when beaten a little more than four metres. The filly achieved a sound fourth in a recent Goulburn trial when winner Scotambra recorded a 1:54.3 mile. More details at www.goulburnpost.com.au
The second of the Goulburn fillies is Serene Sea from the David Hewitt stable who has had only the one start earlier this year at Bathurst. On that occasion she galloped and tailed off and was spelled following the effort.
She has been readied for today’s race through some strong trial efforts at Goulburn, the most recent when beaten less than 5 metres in the same trial contested by Major Mai.
Harness fans are reminded that gates to the course will be open from about 1.30 pm and that two official trials are programmed for 2 pm and 2.10 pm. The club encourages all to come out for a great afternoon of competitive and interesting racing, and to experience the wonderful facilities of the Grace Millson Function Centre. Enjoy quality food prepared by Marcia Grant and a wide range of cold alcoholic and soft drinks whilst watching all the racing action in air conditioned comfort.
Goulburn harness racing is brought to fans by the kind support of Tabcorp, Goulburn Soldiers Club, Goulburn Mulwaree Council, Divalls Earthmoving & Bulk Haulage, Goulburn Mazda, ARW Multigroup, Hollingworth Crane Hire, RSM Accountants, and a host of smaller businesses including Top Water Carters Crookwell, First National Real Estate Goulburn, Goulburn Livestock Transport, Goulburn Landmark, J A Communications, Glen Mia ACT Saddlery and Ranvet.
